Telehealth or In Person Therapy?

You know in 2019 that would have been an absurd question! Not anymore. Since the COVID-19 pandemic things have changed. Telehealth therapy, telemedicine and online treatment platforms have changed the game. You can now easily access health and wellness services (therapy included!) through a screen.

Why telehealth?

Now telehealth is a widely offered and utilized delivery of therapy services.

Pro: It’s convenient, safe, easy to access and delivers very similar results. You save precious time and it can easily fit into your busy schedule. You can relax in the comfort of your own home. You can even wear sweatpants! All you really need is a private room, an internet connection and a phone or smart device.

Con: You may feel less connected through a screen. You may get distracted by your environment. Those dreaded technical difficulties.

Is in person therapy still a thing?

Absolutely. In person therapy has made a considerable come back now that COVID-19’s threat has diminished.

Pro: In person therapy can be a really moving and powerful experience. There is just a different feel to being in the room with someone. You get to see, experience and witness so much more. More connection. More feels. You also have more ability to engage in experiences together including art, activities, breathing, movement, yoga to name a few.

Con: It definitely takes more time, effort and energy to attend in person sessions. It can be harder to fit into your schedule. More opportunities to be late/miss an appointment due to weather, traffic, etc.

Ultimately it is up to you and your preferences!
